Using Omni One with SteamVR

Overview

Omni One is compatible with PC-based VR games using the Omni Connect PC Driver. This guide explains how to set up Omni Connect, configure your PCVR games, and optimize your setup for a seamless VR experience.

The exact point at which you run SteamVR may vary depending on your headset and preferences; it can be launched automatically by some PC-headset streaming apps for your convenience, for instance. Omni Connect will encourage you to launch SteamVR. Note that if you do this before you have connected your PC to the headset via streaming software (if using a wireless headset), SteamVR will tell you that your headset is not connected, but you can ignore this and proceed with connecting your PC and headset via the streaming app, at which point SteamVR should detect your headset.

Please check the hardware requirements and Omni Connect setup before proceeding.

Step 1: Check that your game is supported, launch Steam and apply any game-specific instructions

Games usually require some additional configuration, so check that your game is supported and learn what additional steps may be needed for them on our officially supported games list, here.

Note: Even if you don't need to make changes, open Steam and log in, as SteamVR may not launch otherwise.

Step 2: Launch Omni Connect

Run the Omni Connect shortcut from your desktop, and ensure that you are logged into your Omni One account.

  • Using Omni Connect requires a user account. This is not the same as a customer account, which is made when placing an order. If you don’t have one yet, you can create an Omni One user account here. If you fail to log into the Omni Connect desktop app, it may be because you are trying to use a customer account.
  • If you have our Omni One headset, it can be powered on at this stage, but the Omni will show as disconnected until you connect to the PC from within our headset (in the next step).

Step 3: Launch Streaming Software

  • Open the streaming app on both your PC and VR headset.
  • If you are using our Omni One headset, go to Settings > Streaming to PC.
  • Connect to the PC via your headset's streaming app. This may automatically launch SteamVR. Otherwise, select the option to launch SteamVR.

Step 4: Enter the Omni and check your boundary

  • Safely enter Omni One and check that the gamepad model is directly beneath you. If it isn’t, reset your room space in your headset’s settings.
  • If you'd prefer not to load Steam's home environment, the setting to disable it is in SteamVR's general settings, visible there once you have enabled advanced settings.

Step 5: Calibrate Movement

  • If you are using Steam Link, stand still and look straight forward while holding the Home button on the right controller to calibrate (you should notice the headset view change slightly).
  • If you are using Pico Connect or Pico’s Business Streaming app, use the Recenter Icon in the SteamVR menu to align your head and body.

Look straight ahead while the timer counts down (otherwise, your head and body will not be correctly calibrated and you will move in the wrong direction).

Alternate Method to Recenter:
If this icon is not visible for you, you can calibrate from the SteamVR desktop app, by selecting the monitor icon in SteamVR to view your desktop. Select the app’s menu icon in the top left, then select ‘Recenter.’ You can turn to face the menu before you do this:

You should now be correctly calibrated once you are in the game. If you are moving in the wrong direction as you walk, try again and make sure that your head and body are aligned when you select ‘Recenter.’ Note that calibrating within the game can sometimes cause issues with player height.

Step 6: Start the Game, Test and Configure Settings

Launch the game and once it has loaded:

  •
    • Test the controls to ensure movement and interactions are working correctly.
    • Choose continuous movement (not teleport) in the game's settings.
    • Choose head-based movement for directional control in the game's settings.
    • Adjust the other game settings as recommended for each supported game on this page.

You should now be able to walk around in the game using Omni One. If not, and the game is on our supported list, please visit our PCVR troubleshooting guide.
